What causes you to feel unmotivated?

Here are common reasons why you feel dull and why you need to restore your energy:

1. You’re experiencing burnout

Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive prolonged stress.

When you’re feeling overly stressed and emotionally drained, it will manifest physically. This is why you’re unable to perform well.

Burnout causes you to feel unmotivated, feeling helpless, and hopeless.

2. You don’t have a daily routine

Having an unorganized day affects your energy and lifestyle. Without a daily routine, you are basically throwing random tasks and activities on the spot to your day which often causes stress, worry, and anxiety.

Perfectionism could also hinder your energy and motivation.

Fear of failure, particularly, is one of the most common fears that really suck out your motivation and energy.

Constant thinking about failing a task or project drains you mentally, emotionally, and physically which prevents you from finishing your work or even getting it started.

If you are experiencing one of these examples, the best way is to learn how to recover your energy. If you have energy in whatever you need to accomplish, you will feel alive and inspired to do more!

5 Tips to Restore Your Energy

Giving your full energy to what you want to achieve in life is one of the keys to unlock your best self and full potential.

While it is normal to feel dull and unmotivated sometimes, knowing how to get back on track and restore your energy as quickly as possible will save most of your time.

With all that said, here are the tips to help you restore your energy and get your life back together:

1. Rest

The first tip to help you restore your energy is to get some rest.

Resting has healing power because you’re allowing your body and mind to reset and refresh.

Notice when you work or study 8 hours or more for the whole week. Over time you will feel drained. Your energy slowly goes down.

Our body tells us if we need to move and signals us when it’s time to rest.

If you are unable to listen to your body, it will force you to do what it’s trying to tell you.

For example, not exercising regularly will make your body feel stiff and achy, signaling you to move your body. The same goes when you need to rest.

When you feel burnout or emotionally drained, your body is directly telling you “hey, let’s get some rest!”

If you refuse to listen, your body will react and it will force you to do it. This is when you’re having very low energy and little to no motivation to do anything.

Giving your mind and body some rest is super important. After all, you are a human. Even a machine takes some time off to maintain its good function.

A week or even just a day of break from the daily grind will drastically help you restore your energy and recover your motivation!

2. Revisit your goals

Another way to restore your energy in life is to simply review your goals.

We know that achieving our goals is never linear. The journey from point A to point B will take you on a rollercoaster ride, for sure!

It is so easy to get caught up on the crazy ride and we forget what it is all about. Because of that, there will be times that we’ll feel unmotivated and dull.

Remember your “Why”

Reminding yourself why you have to get through all of this, and why it’s all-important to you will help you restore your energy in life.

Your goal serves as your fuel to keep you going. Losing focus on your long-term goal will lead you to feel lost and uninspired.

Creating a vision board is a wonderful exercise to help you remember your goals and “why”.

A vision board or dream board is a collection of images and affirmations of your dreams and desires.

It’s okay if you lose focus on your goals, we all unconsciously do that sometimes. We all go through those dull and not exciting moments in our life.

On the Weekly Planner we’ve designed and prepared for you, you can now write down your goal or top priority for the week so you won’t lose track of it! Plus, you can write down your reward to motivate you!

Regularly reviewing your goals will help you achieve your goals, give you motivation, and restore your energy!

3. List your “to-dos” and “not-to-dos”

Organization and identifying what to focus on is another way to help you restore your energy.

You feel dull and unmotivated sometimes because maybe, you get used to a daily routine that you do over and over, every single day. Or, you’re the type of person who doesn’t have a daily routine at all.

Writing your to-do and not-to-do list will help you organize and reprioritize.

What I mean by “to-dos” are all the things that you do every day and not just the tasks that you need to accomplish. Including preparing dinner, watching movies, etc.

Organize your day

This exercise will help you identify the tasks that is helping you achieve your goals and habits that are sucking out your energy and motivation to accomplish much more important to-dos.

Basically, all you need to do is list down what you want and need to do, and what you do not need and want to do. Pretty simple!

Here are some examples:

To do:

  • Submit my school papers
  • Walk the dog
  • Start a new hobby
  • Cook for dinner
  • Meet friends

Not to do:

  • Spending too much time on social media
  • Staying up until midnight
  • Overthinking
  • Skipping meals
  • Not exercising and eating healthy

The goal is to focus only on your “to-do” and let go of your “not-to-do” list.

You can do this exercise on the Weekly Planner! We’ve allotted some space so you can list down your week’s to-dos and not-to-dos.

Prioritizing and structuring your day into what is important to you is vital to restore your energy and motivation. If you know your “to-do” list, you won’t spend your energy on the things and habits that do not contribute to your goals.

4. Try some fun hobbies or recreational activities

When you’re feeling dull and uninspired, doing a recreational activity will help you restore your energy.

Recreational activities are often done for enjoyment, amusement, or pleasure and are considered to be “fun”.

When we are so caught up in a daily and consistent grind, we’re not only forgetting our goals, but also we set aside the fun and recreational part of the journey.

Including some fun hobbies in your daily routine will help you balance your energy. Most of us only focus on one part of our life. For instance, you’re giving all your attention to your studies as a college student.

Focusing too much on hard work and labor makes us feel exhausted and drained.

Doing fun activities will help you create boundaries between the hustle mode and play and relax mode.

Recreational Activities and Fun Hobbies to Try

  1. Journaling
  2. Meditating
  3. DIY
  4. Yoga
  5. Hiking
  6. Bike ride
  7. Bird watching
  8. Drawing or Painting
  9. Fishing
  10. Camping
  11. Swimming
  12. Visiting amusement park
  13. Photography
  14. Gardening
  15. Scrapbooking
  16. Knitting
  17. Cooking
  18. Reading
  19. Dancing
  20. Watch documentaries

One of my favorite parts of the Weekly Planner is that it will not just help you organize your tasks but also, remind you to do at least one fun activity every day!

Include at least one fun activity in your daily routine and try to do it regularly.

Self-reflect or track your mood every night to see your progress. I guarantee that it will help you recover your energy and spark joy in your life!

The Weekly Planner also has space for you to track your mood!

5. Start Small

When you feel dull and unmotivated to do something you need to accomplish, you might find that resting and doing something else doesn’t seem to restore your energy.

If you’re finding the motivation to start something, I’m here to tell you that motivation doesn’t always come before you start. Sometimes, you just need to start and the motivation will meet you along the way.

That said, you don’t have to overwhelm yourself. You can always start taking baby steps.

Start a 10 minutes timer, open that blank document, or put on your workout clothes. You can start from the tiny steps and then the next thing you’ll know, it’s a wrap!

Sometimes, the only way to restore your energy is to keep going.

Conclusion

Feeling tired or unmotivated are only signs that you are a human. It is absolutely okay! Burnout, having no daily routine, and perfectionism are the common reasons why we feel dull and uninspired. If you want to restore your energy, try taking some rest, review your goals, reprioritize, do some fun activities, or start whatever you need to do by taking baby steps!
