Vision board is a great tool to help you achieve your goals and improve yourself. If you want to create one for the next year or just to motivate yourself, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to make a vision board that really works!
What is a Vision Board?
A vision board or dream board is a collage image that represents your goals and dreams. It is obviously different from the mood board that we all know. However, it kind of functions the same way.
We use a mood board to help us visualize the look and feel of something we want to create like decorating an office or planning an event such as a wedding. The same goes for a vision board.
A vision board will help us visualize our dreams and inspire us to manifest them.

The Law of Attraction
Vision board works because it helps you to imagine your future with positivity. When you’re feeling good and optimistic about something you want to achieve, you’re most likely to succeed. And yep! You guessed it! It’s the Law of Attraction!
In one article of Very Well Mind, Elizabeth Scott, Ph.D. wrote that Law of Attraction “is based on the belief that thoughts are a form of energy and that positive energy attracts success in all areas of life, including health, finances, and relationships.”
Visualization, Law of Attraction, and of course hard work will lead you to success!
How to Create a Vision Board that Really Works - 4 Easy Steps
There is no right or wrong to make a vision board. The ideas, photos you want to put together, and everything are totally up to you! But if you want to make a vision board that really works and will help you get where you want to go, here are the simple steps you need to follow:
Step 1: Visualize Your Best Possible Self
The first step on how to create a vision board that really works is to imagine your best possible self. What is important to you? What do you want to change in your life?
If you have no idea what your best self looks like, try to self-reflect and be aware of where you are at this point in your life.
You can first analyze each area of your life to see how you’re doing. One of the exercises to help you reflect is the Wellness Wheel Exercise. This tool will help you not just to create a balanced life but, I personally believe that it’ll also help you analyze and reflect on which area of your life you need to give attention to achieve your best self.
But of course, Wellness Wheel Exercise is not the only way to help you in this step. You can also use your journal or try meditating to visualize your best possible self.
This first step is important in creating a vision board that works. So try to spend some time reflecting and visualizing.
Step 2: Set Your Goals
Done visualizing? Great! Now, it’s time for the next important step on how to create a vision board that really works, the goal-setting!
Remember, a vision board is a representation of our goals and dreams. Your vision board will unlikely be an effective tool if you don’t have goals to achieve.
After visualizing your best possible self, set goals to achieve them. Ask yourself this question: What goals will help me to be the best version of myself?
For instance, I visualize my best possible self as a healthy and vibrant person. To achieve my vision, my goal is to exercise, eat healthily, and practice mindfulness exercises like meditation.
That is just one area of my life I want to improve which is the Health area. You must also think about your goals in other areas like in your career or education, financial, environment, relationships, and fun and recreation.
Step 3: Identify the Actions to Achieve Your Goals
Woah! We’re going deeper and deeper! After you set your goals, we’re now putting them into action! This third step is the special ingredient to make a vision board really work!
From the goals you set, now, ask yourself: What actions do I need to take to achieve these goals?
Clarify your goals and list down all the tasks to be performed and don’t forget to set due dates. Once you’re done with this step, you’re way to go!
Step 4: It’s Time to Create!
Woohoo! Now, for the most exciting part, creating your vision board! You can make a vision board in two ways, physical or digital.
If you choose to create a physical vision board, you need any kind of board, glue, and magazines for your images or quotes you want to include, but you can also print out some images.
For the digital vision board, there’s a lot of different online platform to create your vision board. My favorite platform is Canva. They have tons of customizable templates for vision boards, very easy to use, plus, you can sign up for a free account!
Be creative and enjoy this process of creating your vision board. It’s important that you feel excited and positive about your vision and you feel motivated to achieve them!
Contemplate Your Vision Board Daily
Awesome! You’re done with your fab and most meaningful vision board that will help you achieve your goals! Now, what?
To make your vision board really work, always put it somewhere you can easily see it.
I like to have my digital vision board as my screen saver on my phone, I use it as my desktop wallpaper and print it out to put it on a frame! It helps me to remind myself the “why” of my actions and gives me enough motivation to keep going.
Last words on how to make a vision board that really works
A vision board represents our goals and dreams. It doesn’t mean that automatically, your dreams will all come true overnight once you have your vision board. All of these when combined with proper actions and patience will lead you to success!
