College can be stressful and demanding, that’s why self-care is SUPER essential! As a college student, I literally cannot go a week without doing my self-care habits or else, I will be burned out throughout my semester.

Doing some self-care habits even once every week is so beneficial! If you’re in need of self-care Sunday ideas that will not take much of your time (because, duh, being college = doing loads of school work all the time!), that’s what we’re going to talk about in this blog!

10 Self-care Sunday Ideas for College Students

“Self-care is a priority, and a necessity, not a luxury.”

Self-care is not always bubble baths or popping a bottle of champagne though that would be nice too, but in reality, self-care is being kind to yourself and being accountable for maintaining your well-being. This list is not the luxurious and elegant kind of self-care you see on social media, these are super simple self-care ideas yet have a powerful impact on you!

1. Plan and set goals

One of the most important self-care Sunday ideas or habits to do (at least for me)  is planning and goal-setting! Yep, it is a form of self-care! Setting priorities for your week or your day will help you ease your anxiety and worries. Plus, it’s a way to focus only on what’s important.

2. Write down your thoughts

You can do this by journaling or simply, releasing your thoughts by talking to a friend. Personally, I love journaling because it helps me to clear my mind and organize my thoughts. It’s a great way to check in with yourself!

There are also guided journals that will help you focus on self-care and improve your overall sense of well-being! A Year of Self-Care is a guided journal that will lead you through 365 simple, thought-provoking exercises created to help you stay committed to self-care. Check it out here.

3. Create a gratitude list

Writing down things you’re grateful for will help you shift your focus and see the positive side. Although gratitude’s benefit takes time to occur, it’s a proven way to improve your mood and mental health.

4. Meditate or take some deep breaths

The fourth one in this self-care Sunday ideas list is meditating or practicing some breathing exercise, but actually, you can do this every single day! There is something in our deep breathing that allows us to feel grounded. So if you need a quick tool to help you be in the present, just take some long deep breaths!

5. Stretch

Stretching or doing a yoga session is always my go-to activity for every weekly reset! This will help you refresh your mind and body so you’ll be able to enter a new week or day with clarity and calmness.

6. Hydrate

Obviously, hydrating is a habit you must do daily. Drinking enough water will help you increase your energy. If you neglect to drink enough water on your busy days, make sure that you catch up every self-care Sunday!

7. Tidy up your space

Tidying up your space even just for 20 or 10 minutes is also a way to take care of yourself. You’ll notice that if your space has too much clutter it also makes you feel scattered or overwhelmed. So try to take a little bit of time to clean up your room and I assure you, it will make you feel so much better!

8. Make a healthy smoothie

You can’t go wrong with smoothies! Treat yourself to a healthy drink for your self-care Sunday. There are tons of smoothie recipes that you can do easily and quickly! Here’s my favorite go-to banana smoothie recipe from Inspired Taste if you’d like to try it!

9. Take a step outside and get some sunlight

The next self-care Sunday idea on this list is going outside. Some of us don’t usually go outside unless we need to run some errands. To be honest, on some days that I’m super busy, I don’t even go outside my room lol. 😅

Taking a little walk or literally, just sitting beside your window to get some sunlight and fresh air is a great way to feel more energized.

10. Go to bed early

We tend to set aside our sleeping schedule especially when we are busy with our school or office work. Prioritizing your sleep on your self-care Sunday routine is beneficial to give you more energy and enough rest.

Some other thoughts about Self-care….

There you have it! Those are the 10 quick and easy self-care Sunday ideas for college students! Lastly, let me share my thoughts about self-care because I know some people think that self-care is total BS and selfish.

So, is self-care BS? The answer is no and… yes.

Self-care, from the word itself, is taking care of yourself. Looking after your overall well-being is essential to help you achieve and do what you need and want to fulfill on a daily basis. It’s different from self-indulging and it’s so destructive when you look at “self-care” in that way. That’s the BS part.

Personally, my self-care is allowing myself to cry or to feel what I want to feel. It’s not luxurious or instagrammable at all. So don’t think that the photos in a luxurious bathtub and stuff like that on social media are the only way for self-care. You can take care of yourself in simple ways and most especially, in your own way.
